God Preserves HIS People 11-18-07 Sunday School Lessonby: Angela Watkins
God is in control in HIS World.
11-18-07 Sunday School Lesson, God Preserves HIS People, Genesis 45:1-12 (Background Scripture: Genesis 43:1-45:15)
11-25-07 Sunday School Lesson, Giving-Presenting A Blessing. Lesson: Genesis 48:11-19 (Background Scripture: Genesis 48:8-21)
Genesis 45:1-12
Key Verse -- And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
Works of God, God's Providence In Man's Temporal Affairs, God Overrules Human Designs
Genesis 41:43 -- And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had: "and" they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler "over" all the land of Egypt.
Civil & Social Life, Regal Government, The Insignia (distinguished by a sign, mark, etc) of Viceroyalty
"and" -- Esther 6:9 -- Other Nations, The Medo-Persian Empire
Food for Thought -- If you don't know who the Medo-Persian Empire is visit a christian search engine or buy a "Then & Now Bible Maps Book."
Genesis 41:45 -- And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnath-paaneah; and gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah "priest" of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
Other Nations, The Intermarrying of The Hebrew & Other Nations, Instances of Intermarrying
Zaphenath - paaneah: the one who provides the sustenance of the land
"priest" -- or prince
Exodus 2:16 -- Industrial Employments & Products, Care of Live Stock, Wells for Stock
Exodus 2:16 -- Now the "priest" of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water and filled the troughs to water their father's flock
"priest" -- or princes
Genesis 45:1-12
Verses 1, 2, 3, 4 -- The Family, Family Affections, Brethren, But Not Revenged
Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren.
And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard.
And Joseph said unto his brethren, "I" am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were "troubled" at his presence.
And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near unto me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, "Whom" ye sold into Egypt.
"I" -- Acts 7:13 -- Other Nations, Hebrews & Gentiles Before the Final Settlement in Canaan, The Hebrews Kindly Received in Egypt
"troubled" -- terrified
"whom" -- Genesis 37:28 -- Joseph sold twice
Food For Thought -- If you were Joseph how would you have felt? If you were Joseph brothers how would you have felt? Joseph began to cry and he cried loud -- his brothers did not know who he was.
He had to make himself known to his brothers. Was it because he had learned a different language, lifestyle/way of life, dress different/clothing-apparel, since he had been sold and stayed in Egypt?
His brothers knew they did wrong and they became terrified. I wonder did they think that he would get even with them .. revenge?
Genesis 45:1-12
Verses 5, 7, 8 -- Works of God, God's Providence In Man's Temporal Affairs, God Overrules Human Designs
Now therefore be not grieved, "nor" angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither" "for" God did send me before you to preserve life.
And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me "a" father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
"nor" -- neither let there be anger in your eyes
"for" -- Genesis 50:20 -- God's Providence In Man's Temporal Affairs, God Overrules Human Designs
"a" -- Judges 17:10 -- Sacred Persons & Offices,The Levites, The Levite Hired by Micah
Question - Food for Thought -- Are we back again to the Israelitish Tabernacle?
God is the one who does the calling -- not an appointment by man
If I was a man (some women say they are answering the call that's up to them and God) and was called into the ministry to preach I would not put on a Robe to preach in unless I was clean with the LORD
Exodus 28:2 -- thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty
Make sure if you have a wife or wife-to-be you know how to treat her .. a man should love his wife like Christ love the Church ... the end....
Genesis 45:1-12
Verse 6 -- For these two years hath the faminie been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
Faminie
Verses 9,10,11,12 -- The Hebrews, Israel in Egypt, Entrance Into Egypt
Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not:
And "thou" shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast:
And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty.
And, behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is "my" mouth that speaketh unto you.
"thou" -- Genesis 47:1 -- Genesis 46:28
Genesis 47:1 -- Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.
Goshen -- North East Egypt in the Nile River delta
Joseph was prime minister -- Genesis 46
Genesis 46:28 -- Civil & Social Life, Travelling, Guide
And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen: and they came into the land of Goshen.
Judah -- 4th son of Jacob by Leah (the unloved wife), he also saves Joseph's life by telling his brothers to sell Joseph to the Midianites (Genesis 37:26-28), and is also an ancestor of King David as well as Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:3-16)
"my" -- Genesis 42:23 -- Civil & Social Life, Interpreter
And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them with an interpreter.
Question -- Food for Thought -- Why was an interpreter needed? Was it because he had learned a different language, lifestyle/way of life, dress different/clothing-apparel, since he had been sold and stayed in Egypt?
