Right Attitude to Pray

by:
Moyo-Angel Bamidele

Topic: Right Attitude of Praying (Illustrative Teaching)
Text: Matthew 6:5-13.

Kindly release yourself to the Holy Spirit to understand the illustrations used in this teaching

Amen! Having a right prayer attitude in our Christian race can not be over-emphasized. Questions have come up in this area: does God really answer prayer. I have been face with such a question in the time past, when it was really hard on me: I have prayed, fasted, prophesized, tongued but it seems God is not answering me and I answer: does God really answer prayer.

If you are going through or asking such a question, then my message and article ‘Does God really answer Prayer’ is for you. Read or place order.

• How do I pray right?

The way and how we pray are very important for an answer pray. By the grace of God we will be considering two facts in this teaching today.

• Praying in Jesus Name.
I have people, Christians conclude their prayer by saying ‘through Jesus Christ oh Lord have I prayed.’ I believe you heard that before or are you praying in that way?

Praying through Jesus is wrong. Please get me right.

ILLUSTRATION

If Mr. ‘A’ is working for ABC Ministry and the said ministry is to receive a contract from QR Bible School and Mr. ‘A’ is the company Contracting Director, QR Bible School did not know Mr. ‘A’ as the contracting Manager of ABC Ministry, so the CEO of ABC Ministry went to introduce Mr. ‘A’ as the ministry contracting Director to QR Bible School.

Henceforth, Mr. ‘A’ will be transacting with QR Bible School on behalf of ABC Ministry as the ministry contracting Director. So QR Bible School now know Mr. ‘A’ as the contracting manger of ABC Ministry, so Mr. ‘A’ does not need to go with his CEO again to QR Bible School the next time he want to transact business.

Mr. ‘A’ now has direct link to QR Bible School because he has been introduced, the Bible School now know him.

EXPLANATION

Amen! Am trying to paint a picture here, we are (I and you) Mr.’ A’, QR Bible School is God the Father and the CEO of ABC Ministry is Christ Jesus.

When we first gave our lives to Christ, we are sinners, the God the Father does not know us, and we are not recognized by Him due to our sin.
So when we gave our life, we pray through Jesus Christ to God the Father, when we pray through Jesus Christ, He link us to heaven and introduce us to God the Father just as the CEO of ABC Ministry did to Mr. ‘A’.

The introduction and the link is what happen on the Cross when Christ bridge the gap that exit between man and God due to our sin. So Christ is the bridge Bridger, He link us to heaven.

When we pray then through Jesus Christ, having been linked and introduce to heaven (God the Father), we now have direct access to heaven, to God the Father. The next time we go to God in pray we do not need to go through Jesus Christ, but we go in Jesus’ Name because we have been introduced to heaven, to God the Father.

Just like when Mr. ‘A’ has been introduced as the contracting manager to QR Bible School by his CEO, he does have to go with his CEO again to QR Bible School but he need to go in the CEO or the ministry’s name.

Beloved, we are Christian. We are recognized by heaven, we have direct link to God the Father through Jesus Christ.

Christians, it is wrong to pray ‘through Jesus Christ but In Jesus’ Name. you conclude your prayer by saying ‘In Jesus Christ oh Lord have I prayed’ (Right) not ‘through Jesus Christ have I Prayed ’ (wrong).

2. Praise praying

A senior friend when I was in the University taught me on this and I want to share it with you believing it will help you.

ILLUSTRATION

He said when we pray to God, this is the confident that we have that He answers us. He said when we pray to God as a Christian, He went ahead to purchase a piece of land for in answering to our prayer to cultivate and build our prayer request.

So in answering our prayer, He a piece of land and He laid the foundation waiting for us to pray sing the laying of the blocks to roofing, that its, we pray to God for a request, He answer us by purchasing a piece of land (done on the cross) and make a foundation for our requests, after the foundation its praising God and thanking Him for the request that will lay and complete the building (the request).

But many Christian, what quick result and often times they are disappointed and ask ‘does God really answer prayers?’ order for message like ‘When God says No, Does God really answer prayer’.

In the course of longing for quick result of their prayers, they stop ‘praise praising God on their request’ and the pray (start all over again) to God the same request again. The Bibles say man may be slack but God is not slack in His promises.

So when believers pray to God again and He stops the constructing He was making on the precious land and start all over again. He went ahead again to purchase (the purchase was made on the cross) another piece of land to make another foundation for the request, after the foundation He expect us to ‘sing praise Him’, that it’s, thanking and praising God for the request we have laid to Him.

This is the point many Christians complain about delay in prayers or that God is not answering our prayer.

Our God is not the problem; He is an answering God we serve. But the problem lies in our hand.
